so the last couple days my google alerts for giant antlers have been going off with news that the web rip of the record is available on rapidshare, and the usual download sites. it was inevitable. and this is not going to be one of those damn piracy rants. that would be very hypocritical of me as i have pirated my fair share of music (or more than) over the years.

at the same time we did put a lot of work and effort into the record, and i’d rather people not hear a web rip. mp3′s already dilute the actual sound of music and i don’t want it to sound even crappier with just a web rip.

so given those two facts what i have done is turn the record on our bandcamp into a pay what you want to record. ala in rainbows, or the museum of natural history. so if you want to pay nothing, all it will cost you is your email address. if you want to pay the suggested $8 or more feel free. we’d appreciate it.

It’s been 10 years, 7 months, 5 days since we last put out a record. Today on the 3873 day we thought it had been enough time and we are happy to say Giant Antlers is now available for you to enjoy. I’d like to thank Big Juss for giving us the title many years ago accidentally. I’d like to thank Slug, Murs, and Len, my friends for donating their talents to the record no questions asked. I’d like to thank Emily Debevac for putting together the cover and so many so many awesome images that it cave the album some credibility. I’d like to thank all the other contributors to the 100 page booklet we put together. To the models who have helped put together the videos. To NASA for mastering the record for us, and finally to Panther for doing the record label work for us, so that all we have to do is make things. It’s a better way to be…

Thank you for reading this. For caring about the art we are trying to share with you. This isn’t our full time jobs, but in a world which seems to be starving for art we felt it necessary to make our contribution. So today we celebrate. oh p.s. since i was home all day yesterday hiding from the hurricane i was able to zip a file. in this file are 10 instrumental sketches for the next record. i’m about to send that file to tarik. so today we are officially beginning work on the next album. it’ll be out next year…

brooklyn blackout video debuts

late last year tarik and kimani were kidnapped by the government. they underwent a series of tortures ripped straight from the movie a clockwork orange. eyes kept open with metal they were forced to watch rap videos for hours on end while a “scientist” kept the eye drops running. they learned a lot from that experience. turned off by what they saw they called basil weathersby who in turn called up juliette from gods girls. gods girls being the home of gorgeous alternative pinup, gothic, emo, tattooed, pierced, hot and sexy girls. together they decided to make a video which is exactly the opposite of all rap videos made in the past. together they made a short horror film in time for halloween complete with nudity, pools of blood, a butcher knife, and an apple modeled after the guy from hellraiser. the perfect movie to accompany the angry and demonic synths driving brooklyn blackout. after a ten year absence this is the second single off of the upcoming new record giant antlers by the masterminds.
